First impressions of new signings
Best of the bunch could be Havard Nordtveit who looks a class act, Gokhan Tore looks lively and although his crossing was hit and miss on Sunday the ball into the box for the goal was sublime.
Masuaku at LB looks solid and Feghouli looks like he will give Tore a run for his money as a player who gives the team some width.
Jonathon Calleri could have won the crowd over instantly if he had converted that last minute golden chance against Bournmouth, it wasn't to be but he showed some nice touches on the ball nevertheless.
All in all, the squad looks healthier with these signings.

First impression is that Nordtveit is absolute toilet , Tore is unfit, Calleri cant' finish for toffee and Masuaku looks more than useful

Re: First impressions of new signings
Masuaka - Very good technically, physically and mentally. Will keep Cresswell out of this XI.

Nordtviet - Will do a very good job when needed and will doubters wrong (have no idea where negative observations have come from)

Feghouli - Class.

Tore - Will win over the fans and gain a cult following. In Turkey he played with desire and heart, add to that a decent left foot and a correct starting position and he'll blossom.

Calleri - Clearly talented. Needs to hit the ground running before fans get on his back and is affected by that pressure. I think he will.

Fletcher - Free. Young. Hungry - Nothing sort of great business.

Ayew - Erm?

Re: First impressions of new signings
I had my say on first impressions

My second impressions are that if everyone is fit, none of them make the starting 11, which is a travesty as you would hope that the first 11's quality would lift a notch every summer window

Squad fillers and second stringers in predominently places that were not priority - still no top line striker or RB

Crassus 7:13 Tue Aug 23
Re: First impressions of new signings
Best I apply some balance to that last post - we clearly needed to expand the squad, so that's a tick and the youngsters, Fletch, Quina and Martinez look blinding aquisitions

My constant gripe is that there is no stand out first 11 buy up front or at RB

Tore = Faubert

Re: First impressions of new signings
J Arthur most impressive of them so far.
Ferghouli next most promising
Nordveit worried me most in terms of mobility as a DM in first few games but against Bournemouth he did a lot of good covering and getting a foot in etc... Unseen worker in the middle that all good teams need. Not saying he is that person but he certainly put in a shift covering and closing on Sunday.

Tore another who looked poor in first appearance and much of the Bournemouth game. Again jury out but he was not fit but is improving.

Calleri has some pace (well compared to Carroll who hasn't/, good technique (control and passing) and looks like he will work hard and even hold it up. Too early to judge and that miss was a shame but overall I think he will be a useful addition.

All that said, we still need cover at RB and a proven striker.

LEts see what we think of the new boys at Xmas. Then we will really know

Nortveit is a class act? Based on an ok performance against Bournemouth?

Son of Anarchy 7:19 Tue Aug 23
Re: First impressions of new signings
I think Calleri will be class, shame he didn't put that chance away on Sunday his confidence would've been sky high.

Nordviet looked so much more composed on Sunday, he'll grow into the role and if it lets others get forward all the better.

Tore..a touch of the Fauberts about him, he'll do the sublime but will frustrate. I like him though, plenty of heart.

I would keep arthur, the rest should be traded in for a proper striker

I'll stick with my prediction about Nordtveit hopefully I'm right, worried to see the comparisons of Tore to Faubert, I hope you're wrong Faubert was a massive disappointment.

Re: First impressions of new signings
Nordviet and Tore both looked a bit shocked at the pace of the game but slowly came to realise you have to know what you are going to do with the ball BEFORE you receive it. You will rarely have the luxury of receiving the ball, taking a touch, looking up and playing a pass. Both had the ball taken off their toes, particularly in the first half. Nordviet had a touch of the KOVAC about him but improved in the second half.

Both of those players are going to take time getting properly up to speed but Arthur looks like he's been playing in the Premiership for years.

My greatest hope (besides us loaning Wilfred Bony) is that Callieri and Lanzini are going to develop a good understanding, become roomies and love their time in London. Lanz can certainly set them up so lets hope Callieri can put them away. They COULD be the stand-out players of this season with a bit of luck.

Lets hope our new Argies are as good as our old ones.

Re: First impressions of new signings
It's a bit early but since you asked.....

Nordtveit, looked better Sunday but looks really slow and less dynamic than Noble. So far mainly poor but may come good.

Masuaku looks like great business, big test for him against city coming up to see what his defending is like. Looks really good so far and well up for it.

Tore looked better when Bilic finally decided to play him on the left, great assist for the goal. Had looked bang average up to the second half Sunday.

Calleri held it up nicely bit doesn't look to have anything special about his game, no real pace or aerial ability. Hopefully has a back of being in the right place at the right time. Better option than Valencia or Fletcher.

Fletcher looks ok but has shown little to justify the excitement on here. Just because he used to be better than Rashford (who is shit),doesn't automatically make him worth a place in the team. Loaned out once we buy another forward I suspect, then you can all shut up about him.

Ferghouli looked decent until he broke.

Stewart looked pony until he broke.

Overall quite disappointing so far but it's too early to write anyone off. Except Valencia vehicle is just awful.

Re: First impressions of new signings
Arthur - solid and always in a good position. his understanding with teammates will get better

Nordveit - mixed start but he seems to be adapting gradually and clearly enjoyed sunday. will be a good player to have if we get through Thursday

Tore - early appearances he looked spaced out but the confidence is getting there and he's shown he can whip a ball round a defender which is invaluable

Calleri - holds the ball up well, very mobile and he'll score soon

Fletcher - has the size and pace to terrorise centre backs. i've liled what i've seen from his brief cameoa but would love him to start game with Calleri. i think theyd link up well

Re: First impressions of new signings
I think that they will all become useful squad members and will strengthen us overall but not improve our best eleven from last season.

Re: First impressions of new signings
First impressions, but far too early to be critical as none have had a chance to settle in yet:-

Arthur -solid & reliable understudy for Cresswell. Quick, athletic & good stamina. My big worry is that he's so seriously left-footed

Feghouli - Looks a very good player. Tricky & good on the ball & also a good passer. Did we really get this lad on a freebie?

Tore - I don't think he should be getting the critisism he has. Doesn't look quite fit yet & carrying a little extra weight . Looks skilful & doesn't look to give up easily

Fletcher - Obviously a raw talent for the future. He's a big lad who seems to have an eye for goal. Quite impressed so far

Calleri - An obviously very talented player who will adapt & possibly be a massive star for us this season. wish we had an option to buy him!

Ayew - We really don't know yet & won't for a while. Payet's ex-team mate so lets see what happens when they link up + Lanzini. Mouthwatering prospect

Nordtveit - I just haven't been impressed with his workrate, tackling or positional sense to be honest. Put in a couple of very nice passes (but a lot of awful ones!)

Comma ~ Also agree with that

Mostly a squad bulking exercise rather than a jaw dropping improvement on last term

We haven't got an option to buy Calleri? Would be a bizarre situation. Surely not?

Re: First impressions of new signings
His 'company' he works for probably prefer him not to have one. Proper dodgy stuff that signing.

Anyway I thought you'd decided he was shit and was getting all angry about him joining?
